For this large painting I pushed the limits of abstraction for me as well as the archival plant based paint. I try to make it look like the painting painted itself, keeping my hand out of it. To make it look like it is in a constant state of movement and becoming. I start with pastel on the canvas and I happened to be listening to a Hozier song and wrote the lyric "Outpace the dark" which is now hidden in the layers. The title is also from a Hozier song. I rely so much on music to get me into the flow and drown out all other thoughts. it is like I am listening to someone else's art while I make my own. My work becomes infused with mood, rhythm, and sound.
